Openers hammer Pakistan bowlers as England raise 174/0 before Lunch

RAWALPINDI: England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett baton-charged the Pakistan bowling attack as the pair raised an unbeaten 174-run partnership in the opening session of the first Test, here at Pindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

Opting to bat first, England’s opening pair capitalized on the favourable batting conditions to the full extent as they attacked the hosts’ bowling line with a fearless approach.

Crawley smashed unbeaten 91 runs off 79 balls laced with 17 boundaries, while Ben Duckett matched the brisk run rate as he blasted 77 off 85 balls with help of 11 fours on his return to the Test side after six years.

Pakistan bowlers, on the other hand, remained hapless in front of England’s batting assault throughout the opening session. Debutants Haris Rauf and Mohammad Ali conceded runs at an economy of over six while spinner Zahid Mehmood also offered 40 runs in five overs on his maiden Test.

Earlier, the decision to commence the historic Test as per its original schedule only came out early in the morning as uncertainty had prevailed throughout the other day after several players of the England camp fell ill.
